The crime department of Mumbai police arrested three individuals who had been attempting to promote Ambergris or the vomit of whale valued about Rs 2.7 crore from suburban Mulund, an official mentioned on Wednesday.

On receiving the knowledge, unit-Four of the crime department together with a forest officer raided a room at a locality on Tuesday night and picked up three individuals with the Ambergris weighing 2.7 kg, he mentioned.

The samples of the seized Ambergris had been despatched to marine biologists for examination.

A case was registered towards the three individuals below numerous sections of the Wildlife Protection Act and so they had been arrested, he mentioned, including additional investigation is underway.

The sale of Ambergris, which is used to make fragrance, is prohibited by regulation because the sperm whale is an endangered species that’s protected below the Wildlife Protection Act.
