50 metres from Musi River, no go for construction

A survey revealed that almost all construction exercise was on inside 50 metres of the river Musi.

GHMC Commissioner D. Ronald Rose has issued orders for inside circulation, prohibiting constructing permissions inside 50 metres alongside the Musi River, which has been designated as ‘Utility Corridor’ as a part of the Musi River Development venture being applied by the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation (MRDCL).

The Commissioner directed the zonal and deputy commissioners and all of the city planning officers of the GHMC to not give permissions to new layouts, or buildings or developmental exercise inside 50 metres on both aspect of the river, for 55 kilometres of its size within the metropolis from the dual reservoirs as much as Gowrelli village.

Citing the instructions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for a survey to establish properties and encroachments inside Musi river boundary and buffer zones, the orders stated the 50-metre utility hall could be reserved for transportation, trunk sewers and different developmental works.

Teams have already been shaped with Revenue officers headed by Deputy Collectors for the survey overlaying 55 kilometre stretch and 14 mandals. During the survey, it was noticed that a lot construction exercise was on inside 50 metres of the river, the orders stated citing a letter addressed by Managing Director of Musi River Development Corporation Limited Amrapali Kata.

As a part of the event venture, an East-West street hall is proposed alongside the river, together with 39 sewage remedy vegetation and the related infrastructure, for which clearance is required on both aspect of the river.
