Tragic California Bus Crash: 1 Fatality and Over 30 Injured in Devastating Incident

A tragic crash occurred early Sunday morning in Hacienda Heights, a community southeast of Los Angeles. A tour bus collided with an S.U.V., resulting in one death and injuries to 32 others.

The accident took place around 5 a.m. on the 60 Freeway. When firefighters arrived, they found the S.U.V., a Nissan Pathfinder, completely on fire, trapping its driver inside. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the bus, as reported by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The driver of the Nissan, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released his identity.

Initial reports from the California Highway Patrol indicate that the Nissan had become disabled in a lane of traffic for an unknown reason. The tour bus, driven by Sui Sheng Du, struck the back of the disabled vehicle. After the impact, the bus swerved across lanes and hit the guardrail.

There were 63 passengers on the bus at the time of the incident. Six individuals sustained serious injuries, while another 26 had minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals. The remaining bus passengers were transported away from the crash site by a second bus.

Images from the scene show the bus tilted on the shoulder, with significant damage to its front and a shattered windshield.

Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. The westbound side of the freeway remained closed for investigation as the incident was assessed.
