ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — A tragic shooting unfolded on the campus of Elizabeth City State University, leaving one person dead and several others injured. This incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. during Yard Fest, part of a celebratory event known as Viking Fest.

The victim, a 24-year-old man not affiliated with the university, has had his identity withheld pending notification of his family. Following the shooting, the campus went into lockdown.

In total, four people, including three students, suffered gunshot injuries. Two additional students were hurt amidst the chaos. Fortunately, none of the injuries are life-threatening, and all affected have been taken to the hospital for care.
