Alan Hamel is now dating Joanna Cassidy, a well-known actress who once co-starred with his late wife, Suzanne Somers. Hamel, 88, shared this news in an exclusive interview.
The pair was recently spotted together in Malibu, enjoying lunch at a local restaurant. They wore matching baseball caps, looking relaxed and content in each other’s company. “I’ve known Joanna for over 45 years,” Hamel said. “We met when she was a guest on my show in Canada during the ’70s. We respected each other but didn’t have a romantic connection back then.”
Their paths crossed again when Cassidy and Somers acted together in the mini-series “Hollywood Wives” in 1985. Reflecting on those days, Hamel recalls their interactions as friendly and cordial.
The couple reconnected through Hamel’s son, Stephen, who suggested they meet after noticing their chemistry at a screening, unaware of their long history. Hamel feels that Somers would approve of this new chapter in his life. In her final days, Somers encouraged him to embrace life after her passing. “She said, ‘Don’t mope around. Live your life,’” Hamel shared.
Despite the romance’s early days, Hamel admires Cassidy greatly. “She’s an incredibly hardworking actress,” he said. “Over the last 50 years, she’s been there for her family and contributed to many causes.”
Interestingly, Cassidy is known for her roles in films like “Blade Runner” and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.” She was previously married to Dr. Kennard Kobrin, but they divorced in 1974, and she has not remarried since.
As Hamel looks to the future, he acknowledges that he is grateful for their connection. “I don’t know where this is going, but I’m thankful to have her in my life,” he said. It’s a reminder that relationships can evolve and flourish, even later in life.
