The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors has chosen Jeffrey Dumars to head the county’s Facilities and Environmental Services Department.
This department has a lot on its plate. First, it takes care of the upkeep and improvement of county buildings and infrastructure. It also manages planning and construction for major projects. On the environmental side, the department works to prevent pollution and ensures compliance with environmental laws. It plays a key role in helping residents reduce waste as well.
There’s even more to this role, as Dumars will oversee fleet management, building security, mail services, and street sign maintenance.
Dumars started working in this department early last year and became the interim director in September. He expressed his excitement, saying, “It is an honor to lead the talented and dedicated members of the Facilities and Environmental Services team. Together, we will steward the county’s facilities and resources with innovation and care.” His background includes over 20 years of experience in urban planning and design for municipalities and private institutions.
He holds a master’s degree in city and regional planning and a bachelor’s in landscape architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Dumars has also led projects at Virginia Tech and Auburn University, focusing on facilities and environmental planning.
In just a few short months as interim director, Dumars has made significant progress. He is developing a framework for space management, implementing a litter collection program, and overseeing the construction of Biscuit Run Park.
“Jeff brings a proven track record of strong leadership in planning and facilities management,” said County Executive Jeff Richardson. “His strategic vision and commitment to excellence will continue to advance our efforts to meet the needs of Albemarle County.”
