An American woman named Faye Hall has been released by the Taliban after being detained in Afghanistan earlier this year. Hall was captured in February while visiting her friends, Peter and Barbie Reynolds, a British couple. They remain in Taliban custody.

According to Zalmay Khalilzad, a former U.S. envoy to Kabul, Hall is now safe and under the care of Qatari officials. She had reportedly been arrested for flying a drone without permission. Khalilzad mentioned on social media that Hall is in good health after medical checks.

Suhail Shaheen, the Taliban’s ambassador in Qatar, described Hall’s release as a "goodwill gesture" aimed at improving relations, especially with the United States. Shaheen noted that Afghanistan is entering a new phase, focusing on building positive relationships with other countries.

At least two others, Ryan Corbett and William McKenty, were released in January in a prisoner exchange deal. Additionally, Mahmood Habibi, a dual U.S.-Afghan citizen, is still reported missing after being unjustly held since 2022.
