The Amherstburg Fire Department has a new head honcho.
Michael Mio will take the reins from retiring fire chief and group emergency administration co-ordinator Bruce Montone on Sept. 16.
Mio has served with the Windsor Fire and Rescue Service since 1994, advancing by way of the ranks to assistant chief of the fire and rescue division. He additionally serves as a lead evaluator and proctor for the Office of the Fire Marshall of Ontario.

Mio holds certifications in emergency administration, incident administration, Blue Card Command (incident coaching for fire incident command), and several other National Fire Protection Association certifications. He serves as crew lead for the Windsor Level 3 Provincial Hazardous Material Response Team and helped to develop the City of Windsor’s Public Access Defibrillation program, giving the general public entry to defibrillators in case of a medical emergency.
“We very much look forward to having Fire Chief Michael Mio join us in the fall at which time he will initiate the execution of a strategic transition plan that will form the beginnings of the future leadership and direction of the Amherstburg Fire Department,” the city stated in an announcement.
“He brings an enthusiastic, results-driven approach that is based on a high level of ethics, respect, communication and positive team culture, which encourages others to achieve a high standard of performance and service.”

Outgoing chief Montone has served as Amherstburg’s fire chief since 2017. Before then, he was chief of Windsor Fire and Rescue Services for nearly seven years and served as deputy fire chief within the nation’s capital for 9 years.
