Anti-Terror Agency Officials Attacked, Their Vehicle Vandalised In Bengal

A crew of the anti-terror company National Investigation Agency (NIA) was attacked throughout a raid in Bengal’s East Midnapore district this morning. The incident occurred in East Midnapore’s Bhupatinagar space, leaving one NIA officer injured.

The NIA crew had arrived at Bhupatinagar to conduct a raid as a part of the continued investigation over a bomb blast case that rocked the area in 2022. 

As they commenced their search operation, they have been out of the blue confronted by a hostile mob. The scenario rapidly escalated because the mob launched an assault on the NIA officers, leading to harm to property, together with the breaking of a car’s windscreen.

According to the police, the NIA crew had earlier within the day arrested two people linked to the bomb blast case and was en path to Kolkata when their car was besieged by locals. The villagers reportedly surrounded the car and launched a barrage of stones, leading to accidents to 1 NIA officer.

“Locals gheraoed the vehicle and pelted stones at it. The NIA has said one of its officers was also injured,” a senior police official mentioned, as quoted by information company PTI. 

Following the incident, a big police contingent was dispatched to the scene to deliver the scenario below management.

The backdrop of this incident traces again to December 3, 2022, when a devastating explosion killed three people in a kutcha home in Bhupatinagar. Subsequently, the NIA took cost of the investigation of the case.
