Martin Scorsese shall be honoured for his lifetime achievement on the Berlin International Film Festival in February, organizers mentioned Thursday. The 81-year-old director, whose in depth work ranges from decades-old classics comparable to Taxi Driver and Raging Bull to this yr’s Killers of the Flower Moon, shall be given an honorary Golden Bear — the festival’s prime award — on February 20.

“For anybody who considers cinema because the artwork of shaping a narrative in such a manner that’s each utterly private and common, Martin Scorsese is an unmatched position mannequin,” festival directors Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian said in a statement. They described Scorsese as “a good friend of the festival.”

The festival noted that he “is also very committed to historical film heritage,” pointing to his support of extensive restoration work with the Film Foundation. Scorsese won the best director Oscar in 2007 for The Departed.

The Berlinale, the primary of the yr’s main European film festivals, will run from February 15-25. Actor Lupita Nyong’o will head the festival jury. It would be the final version of the festival below the duo of Rissenbeek and Chatrian. Germany’s tradition minister introduced final week that Tricia Tuttle, a former director of the London Film Festival, will take over as the brand new director in April.
