Authorities in Ohio say the physique of a younger boy who was swept away has been recovered days after he was swept away by a rip present in Lake Erie.

“Hunter has been recovered,” the Conneaut Police Department stated in an announcement on Facebook on Tuesday, June 11. “He has been transported from the scene to the Cleveland Medical [Examiner’s] office for examination. Please keep Hunter’s family in your thoughts and prayers.”

PEOPLE has reached out to police for remark.

The boy, who has been recognized solely by his first title, was visiting Conneaut Township Park along with his mom and a good friend on June 7 when he was carried away by the rip present, in keeping with Fox affiliate WJW. Crews had been looking for him ever since.

The organizer of a GoFundMe marketing campaign created to assist Hunter’s household following the terrifying incident stated the tragedy occurred proper “in front of his family.”

“His mother, Diana, fought those waves until she almost gave up her life as well trying to find Hunter,” the organizer wrote. “She was right there when this happened. I can not fathom the grief that this family is dealing with, the pain of the situation.”

The National Weather Service issued a warning the morning of June 7 warning about rip currents from excessive winds and wave motion, WJW reported.

Springfield Local Schools launched an announcement on Facebook following his demise saying that the group “suffered a giant loss this week.”

“Hunter was a great son, team mate, and friend,” the district added. “He will be missed by everyone that knew him. Please come support Hunter’s family as they attempt to navigate this terrible tragedy.”
