Now, Brad Paisley and Dawes are addressing an important issue in their new song “Raining Inside.” Co-written with Lee Thomas Miller, this track explores the often unexplainable feelings of sadness many people face today.
“It’s tough to identify what makes you feel down,” Paisley explained. “A lot of people are dealing with this silent struggle.” He pointed to heartbreaking incidents like the suicide of a Nashville publisher as examples of how serious this issue can be.
The powerful lyrics capture this feeling: “Now I don’t even need a reason | No one’s sick, and no one died | No one’s left, and no one’s leaving | But it’s raining inside.” These words reflect a sense of emptiness that resonates with many.
“For me, it’s a very emotional song,” Paisley shared. This track serves as a reminder that different experiences can lead people to feel lost, even when life appears fine on the surface.
The song was inspired partly by the tragic loss of tWitch, the beloved sidekick from *The Ellen DeGeneres Show*, who took his own life. Paisley had recently hosted the show, and he was struck by how vibrant tWitch seemed during their time together. “I had no idea he was struggling,” Paisley said.
Stylistically, “Raining Inside” taps into the classic sounds of 70s California rock. Paisley and Dawes’ lead singer, Taylor Goldsmith, showcase their guitar skills in a lively and dynamic way that pays homage to their favorite bands.
After bumping into each other at the Grammys, Paisley and Goldsmith agreed that it was the perfect moment to share this timely song. “So many people are feeling down these days, regardless of the good things in their lives,” Paisley noted. “This song is for those who can’t shake that feeling.”
