Breaking News: Patriots Deal DT Davon Godchaux to Saints Just Before Free Agency Begins

The New England Patriots have traded Davon Godchaux to the New Orleans Saints. This comes less than two weeks after the team allowed him to seek a trade. Godchaux, a defensive tackle, has been with the Patriots since 2021.

In return, the Patriots will receive a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Adam Schefter from ESPN was the first to share this news.

Godchaux is originally from Louisiana and played college football at LSU. He entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2017. Four years later, he joined the Patriots in free agency with a two-year, $15 million deal.

His time with the Patriots was marked by contract extensions in July 2022 and July 2024. Over his career with New England, Godchaux played a total of 69 games, including regular season and playoffs, with 68 of those as a starter.

Known as a strong run defender, the 6-foot-3, 330-pound player recorded 250 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble across 2,662 defensive snaps. Most recently, in the 2024 season, he contributed significantly, especially with Christian Barmore sidelined for most of the year due to health issues.

While Barmore’s status with the team remains uncertain, Godchaux’s future is now clear. He will finish out his contract with his hometown team, the Saints.
