CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Lindenwood beach volleyball faced a tough day at the Governors Classic in Clarksville, losing both matches on Friday. They fought hard, particularly against Austin Peay, but came up short, ending the day with a 5-5 record.
Match One: Central Arkansas – 4, Lindenwood – 1
In the first match against Central Arkansas, Lindenwood struggled, finishing with just one win. The pair of Rebecca Janke and Aubrey Sheppard stood out, securing a victory in a nail-biting three-set match. They won with scores of 21-16, 17-21, and 15-9. However, the rest of the team had a tougher time.
Taylor Gentemann and Gabby Belcher, competing in the fourth pair, lost in straight sets, 21-16 and 21-11. Katie Bockhorst and Kaelyn Putz in the third pair fought hard but lost both sets, 21-18. Annalie McWhorter and Abby Jacobs in the second pair also faced defeat, with scores of 21-14 and 21-13. In the first pair, Lindenwood battled but ultimately lost in three sets, 22-20, 12-21, and 15-10.
Match Two: Austin Peay – 3, Lindenwood – 2
The second match against the host team, Austin Peay, was another closely contested game. Lindenwood lost 2-3, but they showed resilience. Janke and Sheppard again went to three sets but were edged out this time with scores of 15-21, 21-15, and 15-8.
Austin Peay took an early lead, winning the fourth pair in three sets against Gentemann and Belcher (21-12, 21-23, and 15-8). But Lindenwood found its footing in the third pair, with Bockhorst and Putz winning 21-18 and 21-19. Jacobs and McWhorter delivered an impressive performance, winning convincingly with scores of 21-5 and 21-8—marking one of the best showings of the day. Unfortunately, the top pair of Wilson and VanBuskirk could not secure a win, losing 21-18 and 21-14.
