Over the past year, the center has embraced new technology to boost learning and improve safety for its young learners.
Overview
Children’s Lighthouse offers care for babies and toddlers, ages six weeks to two years. They also have a preschool program for kids two to five years old. For older kids, they run after-school programs for ages five to 12, along with camps during school breaks and summer.
According to owner Noor Attia, the center uses a play-to-learn approach where kids engage in hands-on activities each week. With unique toys designed by Children’s Lighthouse, kids explore science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and math, known collectively as STREAM.
Outside play is also part of the fun! Children can enjoy a splash pad, playgrounds tailored to their age, and participate in activities like yoga.
Background
Attia found the Children’s Lighthouse franchise while searching for daycare for her son. Inspired by the curriculum, she opened the Cedar Park location with her siblings. During the pandemic in 2020, they served about 10 children, but the center now cares for up to 190 kids each day.
“Some of these kids are here anywhere from eight to 10 hours a day,” Attia said. “I want them to feel like they’re part of our family.”
Features
Last year, Children’s Lighthouse partnered with PBS Kids to provide iPads for limited use, encouraging learning through play. Their after-school program, called xSTREAM Quest, incorporates games on an interactive TV board.
“Adding some technology is essential,” Attia shared. “If they’re using electronics, we want them to learn something valuable.”
To enhance safety, the center has a state-of-the-art security system that uses artificial intelligence to alert authorities of any potential threats.
Parents can also access a livestream of their child’s classroom, providing peace of mind for those new to daycare.
Looking Ahead
The Cedar Park center plans to install digital boards outside classrooms to keep parents updated about their child’s learning and events.
As Attia mentioned, “We always ask ourselves how we can improve. Kids today are different from those a decade ago, and we are evolving with them.”
