While Apple joined the AI game a bit later, its vision for Apple Intelligence aims to revamp Siri. The goal is to make Siri a smarter personal assistant that understands users better. However, Apple admits that it will take longer than they hoped to fully realize this vision.
What’s the timeline for Siri’s upgrades?
Recently, an Apple spokesperson commented on the expected updates for Siri’s features in a statement. They shared that updates like a more personalized Siri, which acts based on user context, will not arrive as soon as expected. These features are now anticipated next year. In the past six months, Siri has become more conversational and has added features like typing to Siri and integrating with ChatGPT.

This statement comes alongside a report from Bloomberg that suggested the new version of Siri might not be available until iOS 20, possibly by 2027. When Apple first introduced these ideas at WWDC last June, the focus was on making Siri a more helpful assistant that fits into users’ lives. The aim was to make Siri much more conversational, which many users have been wanting for years.
So far, however, only a few features of Apple Intelligence have been made available, and many haven’t proven very useful. Features like Genmoji, Image Playground, and voice transcription have launched but don’t significantly enhance everyday user experience.

Meanwhile, Apple still trails competitors in the AI space. Recently, Amazon introduced Alexa+, a voice assistant that’s designed to handle tasks for users based on their personal habits.
What are the alternatives?
Google and ChatGPT also launched their conversational assistants, Gemini Live and Advanced Voice Mode, which allow for natural conversations. They remember context, making interactions smoother and more engaging.
For iPhone users, both assistants offer smoother alternatives to Siri. Google’s Gemini app can be downloaded for free, where users can talk to the assistant naturally. The Gemini app has also been updated to include a “Talk Live” widget for quick access from the lock screen.
ChatGPT Advanced Voice
ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode stands out with on-screen capabilities and camera awareness, making it versatile. You can access it from the ChatGPT app on your iPhone and set it to your phone’s Action Button for easy use.
For ChatGPT users, especially those on paid plans like ChatGPT Plus, the experience is enhanced with fewer usage limits, making it a reliable tool for everyday tasks.
Gemini
If you want to try Google’s Gemini assistant, simply download the app and sign in to your Google account. Activate the voice feature by tapping the waveform icon. Screen awareness is coming soon for paid users.
