Dolphins Suffer First Season Defeat on the Road: A Recap of the University of Mount Saint Vincent Athletics Game

Montclair, NJ – The University of Mount Saint Vincent’s women’s lacrosse team kicked off their 2025 season with a tough game against Montclair State University. In this non-conference match, the Dolphins struggled to keep pace, ending with a 22-6 defeat.

The game started on a positive note for the Dolphins as senior Alicia Rodriguez won the opening draw control. Shortly after, senior Jennifer Brennan scored the first goal, assisted by freshman Isabelle Gurley. However, the momentum quickly shifted. Montclair responded with seven consecutive goals, leaving the Dolphins trailing.

In the second quarter, the Dolphins faced more challenges, and the Red Hawks built a significant lead, ending the first half at 16-4.

The second half saw some adjustments from the Dolphins. They increased their defensive pressure, successfully limiting Montclair to just three goals in each of the final quarters. Despite these efforts, the early deficit proved too difficult to overcome.

Rodriguez had a standout performance, contributing four goals along with eight draw controls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore goalie Makenna Reekie made eight saves and added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Additionally, sophomore Dayonna Thomas also contributed two caused turnovers.

The Dolphins are set to play at home for the first time this season on Tuesday, March 4, against Wilkes University.
