Enhancing Student Success: National University & Palomar College Reinforce Transfer Partnership for Greater Access

National University and Palomar College strengthen their partnership to support students in their educational journey.

San Diego, CA (March 14, 2025) — National University (NU) and Palomar College have renewed their commitment to help students succeed in higher education. This partnership focuses on expanding easy transfer pathways between the two institutions, making it simpler for students to continue their studies.

“We see a growing need for flexible and affordable education options, especially for nontraditional students,” said Dr. Mark D. Milliron, president of National University. “Together, we aim to change lives by creating effective pathways for these dedicated learners.”

This collaboration originally began in 2022 to assist Palomar nursing students in transferring to bachelor’s programs. Now, the new agreement offers a 25% tuition discount for current Palomar students and recent alumni with transferable degrees. Those completing an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) can also apply for an additional scholarship, reducing their tuition by 46% when they transfer to National University within 36 months.

“Our partnership exemplifies our commitment to student achievement,” noted Dr. Star Rivera-Lacey, superintendent/president of Palomar College. “This initiative will provide further opportunities for our diverse student body, especially working adults.”

The available bachelor’s degree programs include:

  • RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity
  • Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership
  • Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration
  • Bachelor of Science in Construction Management

Additionally, Palomar employees can benefit from a 25% discount on most bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and a 15% discount for doctoral programs. To further assist students, National University provides an on-site advisor at Palomar’s Rancho Bernardo Education Center to help with the transfer and enrollment process.

“This partnership aims to prepare future leaders and create accessible pathways for community college students,” explained Dr. Gerardo de los Santos, vice president of community college relations at National University. “Together, we can help students overcome financial challenges and enhance their career options.”

Access to education is essential in today’s workforce. According to a recent report by the National Center for Education Statistics, over 40% of college students are nontraditional, meaning they may work while studying or have delayed their entry into higher education. Programs like the ones offered by National University and Palomar College are crucial to meet this growing demand.
