CHICAGO (CBS) — Evacuations are underway after a freight train derailed in Matteson, Illinois on Thursday morning, as crews work to find out if hazardous supplies have leaked from the train.Â
According to Matteson police, 20 railcars of a Canadian National train derailed round 10:30 a.m.Â
The Village of Matteson confirmed close by residents are beneath a compulsory evacuation order. The order contains the next areas:
- Main Street from the tracks south to Sauk TrailÂ
- 218th Street and 218th Place
- Charles Street
Village officers stated the order contains areas one mile south of Main Street and 217th Street, one mile west of Main Street, and a quarter-mile east of Main Street.Â
