Exciting Developments: Aurora Considers Multi-Purpose Entertainment Venue for Community Fun – Sentinel Colorado

AURORA | Aurora city officials are exploring the idea of building a new entertainment venue. During a recent study session, Councilmember Curtis Gardner highlighted this ongoing effort. “We’re looking into the possibilities,” he said, emphasizing that while there’s been considerable work done, there’s still more to accomplish.

The desire for a large entertainment space has been strong in Aurora for years. Right now, the plans are in the early stages, with no specific location or clear vision for what type of venue could be created.

A feasibility study is underway, guided by consulting firms Johnson Consulting and MIG. This study aims to examine the market potential, gather community feedback, and analyze the financial impact of this potential venue.

Laura Perry, the city’s deputy manager, shared that the study will cover various aspects, including a market analysis and input from the community. Last year, a survey was conducted to gauge local preferences, and it received a strong response. Nearly 2,000 people shared their thoughts, indicating significant interest in the project.

The survey results revealed that the community is particularly enthusiastic about concerts, followed by dance performances and festivals. Concerts topped the list in popularity, with potential interest in sports and school events as well.

Ryan Johnson from Johnson Consulting noted the impressive level of engagement from the community. “There’s a real appetite for such a venue,” he reported, highlighting the synergy between concerts and other popular activities.

The consultants have also studied successful entertainment venues across the country, like the Toyota Music Factory in Texas and Fourth Street Live in Louisville, Kentucky. These examples included various seating options and capacities, alongside innovative funding strategies involving public-private partnerships.

The next steps for the team include finalizing recommendations for both the venue’s program and location. They will also develop cost estimates and preliminary designs while assessing the economic impact to aid the city in making informed decisions about the project.

Key questions remain, such as how the venue will be funded and who will manage it. The consulting team is committed to finding answers to these crucial inquiries as the project develops.
