Pascal Petter, the university’s associate vice president for Auxiliary and Business Services, expressed enthusiasm for this new collaboration. One exciting aspect of this partnership is Chartwells’ intent to integrate technology and robotics further into the dining experience. The university will continue utilizing Starship delivery robots, which have already become a staple for students, faculty, and staff.

Nelson DeFigueiredo, divisional president at Chartwells, emphasized the organization’s commitment to creating an inclusive dining environment. The company plans to keep many of the current Sodexo staff, ensuring continuity and enhancing relationships with students.

Sodexo has been GMU’s dining partner for over 30 years, leaving a legacy of innovation. Under their management, the university earned recognition as the #1 allergen-friendly school in the U.S. and was the first to implement autonomous delivery robots. They also prioritized sustainable practices like robust composting programs.

This transition marks an important milestone for George Mason. It not only looks to enhance student life but also reflects broader trends in campus dining.
