Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) has added a promising talent to its men’s golf team. Coach Easton Key recently announced the signing of Jackson Wise from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) for the 2025-26 season.
Jackson Wise hails from Pontotoc, Mississippi. During his time at MGCCC, he played a key role in his team’s victory at the 2024 NJCAA DII Men’s Golf National Championship. At this prestigious event, Wise finished tied for 20th, posting a total score of 12-over 300.
Wise first made waves in collegiate golf when he clinched his first win at the 2024 Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC), achieving a seven-under 137. He guided his team to a conference title with this impressive performance. He continued his success by winning the 2024 Lou Hart Invitational with a four-under 138.
Throughout his sophomore year, Wise shone brightly, ranking as the No. 10 player nationally and No. 7 in his region according to the NJCAA. He maintained a 73.3 scoring average, securing two wins and four top-three finishes with a record of 479-87-18 against the competition.
In his freshman year, Wise also showed great promise, finishing in the top five twice and in the top ten five times, including a sixth-place showing at the 2023 MACCC Championship.
Before arriving at MGCCC, Wise attended North Pontotoc High School. He now joins former teammates John Mark Mills and Jack Dyer, along with Zachary Olsen from Delta State, on the Governors’ roster for the upcoming season.
Looking at the broader landscape, many college golf programs are emphasizing a mix of talent and teamwork. In recent years, collaboration among athletes has proven crucial for success. A study by the NCAA found that teams with strong camaraderie outperform those that prioritize individual accolades, supporting Wise’s team-oriented approach at MGCCC.
