Binghamton women’s soccer is gearing up for an exciting spring season. The Bearcats have lined up five scrimmage games, plus a special trip to Italy.
Head coach Neel Bhattacharjee expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming challenges. He believes these games will help the players grow. “We want to put ourselves in tough situations, both here and in Europe,” he said. The aim is to build on their strengths as they prepare for the America East championships in the fall.
Over the past four years, Binghamton women’s soccer has enjoyed remarkable success. They’ve won three regular-season titles and have lost only three matches in the conference. Last fall, the Bearcats set a record with a 13-game unbeaten streak. Their performance, with just one loss in the regular season, underscores their dominance. In fact, they’ve recorded a win percentage of 77%—the best in the America East.
Here’s a quick look at their spring schedule:
- Feb. 28: @ Monroe CC
- March 22: Home vs. Bucknell at 1 p.m.
- March 28: Italy Trip (three games)
- April 11: @ Colgate (with Syracuse)
- April 19: @ Rutgers
- April 25: Home vs. Cornell at 4 p.m.
In addition to their scrimmages, traveling to Italy offers an invaluable opportunity for international experience. Competing abroad can expose athletes to diverse styles of play, fostering adaptability and resilience.
Statistics show that study abroad experiences can boost athletes’ skills—both on and off the field. A recent survey indicated that 70% of student-athletes who trained abroad reported improvements in their performance.
As they move forward, the Bearcats aim to capitalize on these experiences, striving for further success in the upcoming season. This combination of local competition and international exposure may well be the key to continued excellence in Binghamton’s women’s soccer program.
