King Charles has launched a new radio show called The King’s Music Room, in partnership with Apple. During the show, he shared some of his favorite songs.
From Buckingham Palace, the King expressed his love for catchy tunes like Kylie Minogue’s The Loco-Motion and Diana Ross’ Upside Down. He also highlighted his appreciation for Ghanaian Highlife music, recalling how it got him moving during his travels.
Charles reminisced about first discovering Highlife music in Ghana during the 1970s. He described the genre as having a “pulsating rhythm” that made it impossible not to dance. On his recent trip to Ghana in 2018, he couldn’t resist dancing to a song by Daddy Lumba, one of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians.
When discussing Diana Ross’ Upside Down, Charles noted how it always made him want to get up and dance. He fondly recalled those youthful days, wondering if he could still manage to dance today.
In his show, he highlighted how music reflects diverse cultures while celebrating a shared love for life, much like the Commonwealth nations he cherishes.
