Experience the Thrill: CISF’s ‘Great Indian Coastal Cyclothon’ Wraps Up in Kanyakumari!

Kanyakumari, March 31, 2025 — The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has wrapped up its impressive event, “The Great Indian Coastal Cyclothon,” themed “Surakshit Tat, Samriddh Bharat” (Secure Coast, Prosperous India). The closing ceremony, held at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, saw enthusiastic locals celebrating the cyclists’ return.

The Cyclothon kicked off virtually on March 7, 2025, led by Union Minister Amit Shah from Tamil Nadu. A team of 125 determined cyclists, including 14 women, traveled a remarkable 6,553 kilometers across 11 states and union territories in just 25 days. More than 1,200 people joined the cyclists at various points along the way, showing strong community support.

One goal of the Cyclothon was to empower local coastal communities, recognizing them as vital partners in national security. Known as “Tat Praharis,” or Sentinels of the Coast, these residents play a critical role in safeguarding the shoreline.

Through this journey, the Cyclothon highlighted the security challenges facing India’s vast coastline. Concerns like smuggling, illegal intrusions, and environmental issues were discussed, fostering awareness among local communities about their significance in ensuring safety.

The initiative also served as a bridge, connecting inland communities to the rich cultural and ecological tapestry of India’s coast. The vibrant coastal traditions, local flora and fauna, and the daily lives of these communities were showcased, emphasizing their importance to the national identity.

Participation was robust. The Cyclothon engaged 58 coastal communities and reached over 2.5 crore people through events and online platforms, with 30 lakh actively involved in rallies and awareness campaigns. This unprecedented engagement underscored the collective commitment to coastal security.

Support poured in from various public figures and celebrities alike. Dignitaries like Puducherry’s Lt Governor and sports legends such as MS Dhoni and Neeraj Chopra lent their voices to the cause. The event also featured cultural showcases that celebrated local dances, songs, and traditions, creating a festive atmosphere.

This Cyclothon has not only raised awareness but has also provided critical insights into the specific vulnerabilities of different coastal regions. The data collected will help shape future policies and strategies to better secure the coastline.

The collaboration between CISF, local communities, and public figures has created a strong foundation for enhanced coastal security efforts. As we look ahead, this event may very well serve as a blueprint for future initiatives aimed at fostering unity, safety, and prosperity along India’s shores.
