Imagine, round 300 Kodava households gathering yearly in Kodagu, Karnataka, for a month-long celebration of hockey, custom, and sportsmanship.

This is the Kodava Hockey Festival, the coronary heart of Kodava neighborhood’s heritage.

Hockey isn’t only a sport for Kodavas; it’s about unity. This 12 months, one among the Kodava households, the Kundyolanda, is internet hosting this grand sporting carnival. Kundyolanda is one among the smallest households to host this event, now in its 24th version.

The festival was the brainchild of Pandanda Kuttappa, a retired banker, who needed to give again to the Kodava neighborhood. He noticed that there was a whole lot of disharmony amongst Kodava households so he noticed sport as a approach of bringing folks collectively.

Hence, the hockey event was born, with simply 60 teams in the first version in 1997. Now, it has 360 teams. We have a look at what attracts folks to this festival 12 months after 12 months, what motivates the youthful technology to participate, what the organisers are wanting to do to make the festival larger and higher, and extra.
