The Government on February 21 eased Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) norms in the space sector in a bid to draw abroad gamers and personal firms into the phase. The resolution was taken on the Cabinet assembly chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Now, the satellite tv for pc sub-sector has been divided into three totally different actions with outlined limits for overseas funding in every such sector, based on an official assertion. Up to 49% FDI is allowed via the automated route for launch autos and related methods or subsystems, creation of spaceports for launching and receiving spacecraft. Beyond 49%, FDI in these actions would require authorities approval, it added.

Further, as much as 100% abroad investments are permitted underneath automated route for manufacturing of parts and methods/sub-systems for satellites, floor and person segments.

This elevated non-public sector participation would assist to generate employment, allow fashionable know-how absorption and make the sector self-reliant. It is predicted to combine Indian firms into international worth chains.

Through the choice, the Government seeks to liberalise the FDI coverage provisions in the space sector by prescribing straightforward entry routes and offering readability for abroad investments in satellites, launch autos and related methods or subsystems, creation of spaceports for launching and receiving spacecraft and manufacturing of space-related parts and methods.

With this, firms will be capable of arrange their manufacturing amenities inside the nation, duly encouraging the Government’s ‘Make In India’ initiative.
