Prospect Medical Holdings stated they made the tough choice to wind down operations due to their inability to reach a viable solution. Although the closure is alarming, some services like ambulatory surgery and imaging centers in the area will remain open.

A spokesperson for the company acknowledged the impact of this decision on patients and staff, emphasizing their attempts to work with the Pennsylvania Attorney General to avoid such an outcome. However, after all efforts, they could not find a way to keep the hospitals running. “Our focus is now on helping patients transition to other healthcare providers while supporting our team members as they seek new employment,” the spokesperson said.

The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General expressed disappointment regarding the closure, stating that state leaders had worked hard to prevent it. The attorney general’s office stated their commitment to pursue financial claims through bankruptcy proceedings to hold Prospect accountable.

State Senator Tim Kearney also condemned the closure, calling it a “devastating blow” to the community. He criticized Prospect for choosing profits over the people, noting how local officials and health systems tried to salvage the hospitals without success.
