Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel prolonged India’s lead to 144 runs after Rohit Sharma scored a century because the hosts ended day two of the opening Test towards Australia at 321 for seven right here on Friday.

Despite wickets tumbling at common intervals on the different finish, Rohit (120 off 212 balls) batted with composure to carry up a hard-fought century, his ninth within the format.

However, the Indian skipper grew to become his Australian counterpart’s first sufferer as a Pat Cummins supply despatched Rohit’s off stump cartwheeling.

All-rounders Jadeja (66 not out) and Axar (52 not out) then mixed forces, scoring unbeaten fifties, to put India in a robust place.

Off-spinner Todd Murphy (5/82) continued to impress in his debut sport as he picked up 4 wickets on Friday, together with the scalps of Virat Kohli (12) and Cheteshwar Pujara (7).
