SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — The IUP baseball team faced a tough day on the field, losing both games in a doubleheader against Shepherd. They fell 3-0 in the first game and 4-0 in the second, bringing their season record to 2-9, while Shepherd improved to 10-8.
Game 1 Highlights:
IUP’s offense struggled, managing only two hits. Ricardo Aponte and Ethan Schimony each got a single during the game. On the mound, Jake Black pitched five innings, allowing six hits and three runs. Jimmy Tooley pitched the sixth inning, giving up two hits.
Game 2 Highlights:
In the second game, Aponte, Camden Rhude, Peyton Johnson, and Cayden Bender each recorded hits. Both Johnson and Bender had doubles. IUP used four pitchers throughout the game.
In the first inning, Aponte and Rhude hit singles but were left stranded. Bender managed a double in the third inning, but the next three batters couldn’t bring him home.
Shepherd scored early, taking a 3-0 lead after the third inning. In the fifth inning, Mitchell Grosch and Rhude walked but couldn’t advance. Shepherd added another run in the sixth inning, sealing the game’s outcome.
IUP will look to bounce back in their next game against Bloomsburg on March 13 at 3:00 PM.
