Join Us for the Exciting Grand Opening of Trinity Health System’s Neighborhood Hospital in St. C!

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Trinity Health System’s Neighborhood Hospital had its grand opening nearly two years after breaking ground. This new facility is located along U.S. 40, just east of Plaza West. It features ten emergency room beds, six inpatient beds, and radiology and laboratory suites.

Dwayne Richardson, CEO of Twin City Medical Center, emphasized that while the opening day was exciting, the hospital isn’t ready to accept patients just yet. “We’re focusing on making sure everything is safe and prepared for patients,” he explained. “Starting a new hospital is really challenging.”

Richardson mentioned the importance of training with local emergency agencies, including active shooter drills and helicopter scenarios. “The worst mistake would be to open before we’re ready,” he added.

The hospital will have an inpatient unit to care for patients who need to stay overnight. Patients will be managed by hospitalists, and specialty services like cardiology and physical therapy will be available.

Although not part of the hospital building, Trinity also owns the old NAPA Auto Parts building next door. They plan to repurpose it, but specific plans are still in the air. Richardson noted that extra parking might be needed, especially after the closure of East Ohio Regional Hospital, which increased the demand for services in Belmont County.

Belmont County Commissioner Jerry Echemann shared that many residents feel there is a strong need for more variety in healthcare options. “We need more competition in medical services,” he said. “That’s what this hospital represents.”

St. Clairsville Mayor Kathryn Thalman also expressed pride in the new facility. “This hospital is more than just brick and mortar,” she stated. “It symbolizes what we can achieve together.” She highlighted the hospital’s commitment to providing compassionate care, guided by a mission to foster a healthier future.

In recent years, healthcare access has become a pressing concern. According to a 2022 survey by the American Hospital Association, about 40% of rural hospitals in the U.S. reported struggling to stay open. This has led to a significant gap in available healthcare, especially in smaller communities. Trinity Health System aims to close this gap, offering essential services in a growing area.

As Trinity Health System prepares to serve St. Clairsville and surroundings, it reflects a broader trend. Many communities are rethinking healthcare delivery, emphasizing accessibility, convenience, and patient-centered care. The opening of this hospital is a step forward in addressing the evolving needs of its residents.
