Mattoon, IL – In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Lake Land College Student Wellness Center set up several mental health wellness stations across campus during finals week. These stations were placed in busy areas of seven buildings.
Each station offered free water, snacks, and fun giveaways like stickers, pens, and fidget toys. Students also found information about TalkCampus and the Calm App, both free mental health services for Lake Land students.
Kendra Bierman, the Student Wellness Center Manager, emphasized the importance of supporting students during this stressful time. “Finals week can be tough,” she said. “We want to offer reassurance and support.”
This initiative is part of a broader trend in colleges recognizing the mental health needs of students. Recent data shows that 39% of college students reported experiencing anxiety, while 36% struggled with depression. Providing accessible resources can make a real difference. Programs similar to Lake Land’s are popping up nationwide, reflecting an increasing commitment to student well-being.
