A 53-year-old man from West Derby has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, as well as dangerous driving and being unfit for driving due to drugs.

Merseyside Police confirmed that the vehicle was following an ambulance responding to a medical emergency when the crash happened. Initially, reports identified 65 individuals as injured, but the number has since risen to 79, with seven still in the hospital. Fortunately, the number of hospitalized individuals is decreasing as people recover.

Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson mentioned, “The number of people in hospital is reducing. We continue to support those receiving treatment.” Efforts are ongoing to speak with more victims and to piece together the timeline of events using extensive CCTV footage from across the city.
