Major Crackdown: Over 30 Arrested in Italy and Germany’s Mafia Food Fraud Operation

German and Italian law enforcement have made significant strides in a crackdown on the ‘Ndrangheta, Italy’s most notorious Mafia group. Recently, dozens of suspects were arrested, including a police officer, during coordinated raids targeting an elaborate fraud scheme involving expensive food and pizza-making equipment.

The scheme wasn’t limited to just financial deceit. Prosecutors noted that the suspects coerced Italian restaurants in Stuttgart to purchase these supplies, often under threats of violence. The victims of this scam were primarily Italians from Calabria, the heartland of the ‘Ndrangheta.
