Manager Dan Spilo Ousted by Industry Entertainment Amid Inappropriate Behavior on ‘Runner’ Set: Alan Ritchson and Kal Penn Cut Ties

Industry Entertainment co-founder Dan Spilo is no longer with the company. His departure comes after a recent HR investigation into allegations of inappropriate behavior, including yelling and bullying crew members on the set of the film Runner, reportedly leading to his removal from the production in Queensland, Australia.

In a statement to Variety, the remaining partners at Industry Entertainment emphasized their commitment to a respectful workplace. They stated, "We have zero tolerance for harassment, abuse, or misconduct, regardless of a person’s position. Every individual deserves a safe and inclusive environment."

Following the allegations, notable clients of Spilo, including Reacher star Alan Ritchson and actor Kal Penn, parted ways with him as their manager.

Spilo acknowledged his behavior in a statement, expressing regret and a focus on his mental health. He said, "I take full responsibility for my actions… I was warned I was having a nervous breakdown, but I kept pushing through."

His previous behavior isn’t without precedent. In 2019, Spilo faced accusations of inappropriate touching while competing on Survivor: Island of the Idols. He was ultimately removed from the game during that season due to these allegations.

The film Runner, co-starring Ritchson and Owen Wilson, is directed by Scott Waugh and stems from a script deemed noteworthy in the 2023 Black List. With producers including Todd Garner and Jeffrey Greenstein, the project aims to uphold a high standard of professionalism and respect.

As the industry becomes more vocal about creating safer work environments, Spilo’s case highlights a growing trend towards accountability in entertainment. According to a recent study by the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance, 67% of entertainment professionals believe workplace conduct has improved over the past five years.
