But Brett Andrew Button, 59, had all 10 of his manslaughter charges withdrawn when he confronted Newcastle Local Court as he admitted lesser charges over the June smash that killed 10 folks and injured dozens extra.
In a deal struck with prosecutors, he pleaded responsible to 10 charges of harmful driving inflicting loss of life, 9 charges of harmful driving inflicting grievous bodily hurt, and 16 ccharges of livid driving inflicting bodily hurt.
Earlier, prosecutors mentioned they might apply to detain Button in custody, a transfer defence legal professionals flagged they might not oppose.
He was not required to enter pleas to back-up charges, together with negligent driving inflicting loss of life.
Another 25 charges of inflicting bodily hurt by misconduct have been withdrawn.
Button arrived at courtroom flanked by a pack of a couple of dozen supporters.

Button was arrested after dropping management of a bus carrying wedding visitors from the Wandin Valley Estate to Singleton about 11.30pm on June 11.
