On April 27, Arkansas Tech University celebrated excellence at its annual awards reception. The university honored three outstanding seniors with prestigious awards for 2025.
The winners are:
- Kacie Gibbins from Vian, Oklahoma – Jill Lestage Brown Service Leadership Award
- Jae Thomas from Bryant – Alfred J. Crabaugh Award
- Elli White from Malvern – Margaret Young Award
The Margaret Young Award recognizes the top senior female undergraduate. Named after Margaret Young, this award honors the legacy of her family at ATU. Margaret’s husband, William O. Young, managed the university’s affairs for over 20 years. Their son, Robert A. Young, and grandson, Dr. Robert A. Young Jr., also made significant contributions to the university.
The Alfred J. Crabaugh Award goes to the most outstanding senior male student. Crabaugh was a vital figure at ATU from 1929 to 1969, known for guiding the university’s transition to a four-year institution. Under his leadership, the institution earned accreditation in 1951, marking a significant milestone.
The Jill Lestage Brown Service Leadership Award recognizes students committed to community service. This award is named for Jill Brown, who served as an ambassador for Arkansas Tech during her husband’s presidency. She dedicated her time to various organizations, enhancing community ties and embodying the spirit of service.
The event also honored the “Who’s Who” students for 2025. Selection is based on academic success, community service, and leadership capabilities. This year’s list features students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, each contributing significantly to campus life.
With the landscape of education evolving, awards like these are more important than ever. They spotlight students who lead, serve, and inspire. Recognizing such achievements not only cultivates a strong community but also prepares students for future challenges in their careers. According to a recent survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, employers increasingly seek graduates with leadership and community involvement—qualities that these awards celebrate.
In the coming weeks, videos and stories highlighting each honoree will be added, just in time for the spring commencement on May 9 and 10. This celebration reflects the hard work and dedication of these students.
