Murray State Racers Capture Historic NCAA Victory: First Win Since 1979!

The Murray State Racers kicked off the 2025 NCAA Tournament with an exciting 9-6 win over the Ole Miss Rebels on Friday at Swayze Field, Mississippi. This victory marked a significant achievement for the Racers, tying the 1979 team’s record with their 40th win of the season and winning their first NCAA game since 1979.

In an action-packed match, the Racers jumped to an early 4-0 lead. Jonathan Hogart hit a lead-off home run, and Dustin Mercer contributed significantly with four doubles, tying the school record for the most in a single game. Dom Decker’s single in the eighth inning sealed the lead, and Mercer added more runs in the ninth.

On the mound, pitcher Nic Schutte put in a strong performance, striking out nine over 6.1 innings. Jacob Hustedde pitched effectively, while Graham Kelham secured the save.

Did you know? The attendance for the game was 11,925, the largest crowd for a Murray State baseball game since they played at Arkansas in 2024. The Racers also have an impressive record of 24-1 when leading after the eighth inning.
