NASHIK: Nashik District Onion Traders’ Association has determined to continue its boycott of onion commerce on the agriculture produce advertising committees till the Centre considers its demand for the withdrawal of 40% export duty.
The affiliation’s different demand is that authorities companies just like the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (Nafed) and the National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) be restrained from promoting onions in wholesale markets.
The affiliation members held an emergency assembly at Pimpalgaon (Baswant) to determine their technique after a gathering chaired by Union minister of commerce and shopper affairs, Piyush Goyal, in Delhi, failed to handle the problems raised by the traders.
“We have nothing to say if the government has no solution to our issues. If we are unable to get returns from the market, we will not be able to pay farmers. Therefore, we have decided to boycott trading,” Khandu Deore, president of the affiliation, stated. The affiliation is boycotting buying and selling since September 20.
Eight days after the decision to boycott, the traders in Vinchur sub-agriculture produce market committee participated within the onion public sale on Thursday, however the traders within the 14 different APMCs within the district continued their boycott of onion public sale.
