Olympic torch arrives in Paris ahead of 2024 Summer Games

Paris has hosted an extra-special visitor on France’s nationwide vacation; the Olympic flame.

Helping to gentle up town’s army parade for Bastille Day on Sunday, tons of of folks carried the Olympic torch all the way in which from Paris’ posh districts to its working-class neighbourhoods.

Students from the multicultural northern suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis then handed it to a relay in entrance of French President Emmanuel Macron.

And the torch relay joined up with hundreds of troopers, sailors, rescuers and medics marching in Paris beneath roaring fighter jets. 

‘It was a dream to be half of it’

Joyful crowds lined up alongside the torch’s route on Sunday and Monday.

“I got super emotional,” BMX world champion Matthias Dandois stated after carrying the torch in entrance of the Eiffel Tower. 

“I’m from Paris and I grew up playing so much sport and watching the Olympics, and it was a dream to be a part of it.”

Thousands chosen to hold flame 

About 10,000 folks, many of them athletes, have been chosen to hold the flame throughout France, from the southern metropolis port of Marseille, the place it arrived on May 8, to the stadium internet hosting the Games opening ceremony on July 26.

French judoka and Olympic champion Clarisse Agbegnenou took the flame to the highest flooring of the Eiffel Tower on Monday.

Francky Mbotto, a 26-year-old middle-distance runner from Central African Republic who lives in Paris, carried it close to the Arc de Triomphe.

“This is incredible! It’s so emotional. It’s Olympism that is being highlighted,” he stated. 

He added that the relay was meant to ship a “message of peace”.

Another torchbearer, Eva David, a wheelchair basketball athlete, described it as “a real moment of jubilation”.

Belgian singer Mentissa carried the torch as her songs have been performed. “Sport and music really bring people together and make us forget our daily lives,” she stated.

Former World Cup winner Thierry Henry, who leads France’s Olympic soccer crew, later carried the flame down the Champs-Élysées avenue.

Late on Sunday, Ludovic Franceschet, a neighborhood rubbish collector, introduced the flame inside Paris City Hall, the place it spent the night time beneath excessive safety.
