Railways Launches 5 Special Trains from Jammu, Udhampur, and Pathankot—Officials Assure Operations Uninterrupted Despite Blackouts

In the midst of rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Railways stepped in to provide crucial transportation. Recently, five special trains were launched, including a Vande Bharat train, to help those traveling from border areas like Jammu, Udhampur, and Pathankot.

Around 300 individuals connected to the Indian Premier League (IPL) were on board one of the Vande Bharat trains heading to Delhi. Following the cancellation of an IPL match in Dharamsala due to security concerns, many players and staff found relief in these special services.

Officials reported that over 8,000 passengers utilized these trains, which were crucial for residents facing blackouts and threats in the region. A notable 12-coach train left Udhampur at 10:45 AM, with a Vande Bharat train following suit at 12:45 PM. Another reserved train left Jammu later that evening.

Despite these arrangements, there has been a visible drop in ticket bookings for Jammu. Currently, trains heading there have fewer passengers, while more are arriving from Jammu. However, train services continue without disruption. The Railways operates its own grid, and in an emergency, they can deploy diesel locomotives to ensure services remain uninterrupted.

According to a recent report by the Ministry of Railways, the proactive measures taken during times of crisis reflect the need for reliable transportation in challenging times. This situation highlights the importance of railways not only as a travel mode but also as a lifeline during emergencies.
