The Baltimore Ravens are keeping a key player on their roster. Pro Bowl fullback Patrick Ricard has signed a new one-year deal to stay with the team.
This contract is fully guaranteed and worth about $2.9 million, with a $1.44 million cap hit for 2025. This news was first reported by Diana Russini from The Athletic.
Talks for a new contract ramped up after Ricard expressed his desire to finish his career in Baltimore. Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta was on the same page, emphasizing Ricard’s importance to the team.
The market for fullbacks shifted recently, especially after the San Francisco 49ers announced they would release Kyle Juszczyk, another Pro Bowler. Following this news, the Ravens quickly moved to secure Ricard’s future with the team.
For eight seasons now, Ricard has been a vital part of the Ravens’ offense, contributing significantly to their running game and pass protection. Under offensive coordinator Todd Monken, he played about 39% of offensive snaps over the last two years.
Several players have praised Ricard’s blocking ability. For instance, running back Derrick Henry, who rushed for nearly 2,000 yards last season, highlighted how much he appreciates having Ricard paving the way. With Ricard on the field, Henry managed to run for 1,324 yards with an impressive 6.2 yards per carry and scored 15 touchdowns.
“Any time 42 [Ricard] is in front of me, I’m comfortable,” Henry remarked. “I’ve got to make something happen.”
Ricard’s role extends beyond just statistics; he embodies the Ravens’ offensive style. While the team hasn’t brought in any outside free agents yet, they’ve successfully retained key players like Ricard and left tackle Ronnie Stanley, which is a positive sign for their continuing efforts to compete at a high level.
