Scarlett Johansson sues AI app for unauthorised use of her image and voice

Actor Scarlett Johansson has taken authorized motion in opposition to an AI app that has used her identify and likeness with out her permission in an AI-generated commercial.

The image producing app Lisa AI: 90’s Yearbook & Avatar posted a 22-second commercial on the social media platform X. It used actual footage of Johansson to create a synthetic image and dialogue for her. “We do not take these things lightly. As per our usual course of action in these circumstances, we will deal with it with all legal remedies that we have,” Johansson’s lawyer, Kevin Yorn informed Variety. The commercial was taken down later.

The commercial, as per Variety’s overview, opens with a behind the scenes clip of Johansson from the set of Black Widow. “What’s up guys? It’s Scarlett and I want you to come with me … ” she says, earlier than the display exhibits AI-generated photographs that resemble Johansson. A voice that imitates the actor promotes the app: “It’s not limited to avatars only. You can also create images with texts and even your AI videos. I think you shouldn’t miss.”

Before Johansson, actor Tom Hanks, and comedians Sarah Silverman and Stephen Fry had spoken in opposition to the unauthorised use of AI-generated photos of them.
