CHENNAI: The Madras excessive courtroom refused to allow reopening of Vedanta’s copper smelter on Tuesday. The smelter has been shut for greater than two years over air pollution issues.
In May 2018, 13 folks died in police firing protesting in opposition to alleged air pollution from the smelter. Every week after that, the Tamil Nadu authorities ordered the smelter shut.
A spokeswoman for Sterlite Copper, a unit of Vedanta Ltd, didn’t instantly touch upon the matter.
A lawyer for the Tamil Nadu authorities didn’t reply to messages and calls searching for touch upon the courtroom judgment.
