The Buffalo Bills have signed Joshua Palmer, a former wide receiver for the Los Angeles Chargers, to a three-year deal worth $36 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Palmer, standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 210 pounds, offers the Bills a fresh outside receiver option. This addition is especially vital as two of their current receivers, Mack Hollins and Amari Cooper, are set to hit free agency soon. The team recently secured slot receiver Khalil Shakir with a four-year contract extension.
Last season, Palmer faced challenges after the Chargers parted ways with star receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Although many expected him to step up, he finished with 39 catches, 584 yards, and a single touchdown. Rookie Ladd McConkey outperformed him, achieving better stats across the board.
Despite these setbacks, Palmer has shown potential as a reliable target for quarterbacks, particularly in crucial moments like third downs and 2-point conversions. His ability to make tough catches under pressure has been noted during his time with the Chargers.
In addition to his on-field skills, Palmer has faced some injury issues. Last season, he missed three games due to calf and heel injuries, but he played all 17 games as a rookie in 2021. Throughout his career, he has recorded 182 catches, 2,287 yards, and 10 touchdowns.
Originally from Ontario, Canada, Palmer played college football at the University of Tennessee before being drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. As the Bills work to strengthen their wide receiver lineup, Palmer’s addition could prove significant for quarterback Josh Allen and the team’s offensive strategy.
