It was an anti-climax for Services’ Charu Pesi.
He accomplished his final clean-and-jerk try of 154kg and jumped in pleasure believing he had gained the gold. But, a number of seconds later, there was gloom because the jury determined that the raise was defective. The gold thus went to Subham T. Todkar of Railways, who had cleared 152kg for a complete of 271 within the men’s 61kg class of the National weightlifting championships right here on Saturday.
Charu needed to accept silver with a complete of 267.
Subham, the 25-year-old from Pune, couldn’t imagine his luck. This was his maiden National gold after two silvers in Visakhapatnam (2019) & Patiala (2021). “It’s a great experience. I was lucky!” he instructed The Hindu.
It was an in depth combat between Subham and Charu all through. In snatch, Subham lifted 119kg, 1kg greater than Charu. In clear & jerk, the distinction was 3kg; 152 to Charu’s 149.
Charu was clearly upset with the decision. “I don’t know what was wrong with my lift,” he stated.
Shankar Lapung of Arunachal Pradesh gained the junior men’s gold whereas Golom Tinku (Arunachal) completed first in youth men’s.
