Bifurcation of Coimbatore zone, North-Western and Southern areas is underway to allow swift response to calls for rescue
To guarantee speedy response in the occasion of fireside and rescue calls and to ease administrative inconvenience, the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services (TNFRS) Department is embarking on organisational restructuring.
Talking to The Hindu, Braj Kishore Ravi, Director General of Police (Fire Services) stated, in the primary part, the Coimbatore Zone is being bifurcated with Salem as headquarters for a brand new zone. The new Salem Zone carves out Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem and Namakkal districts. Meanwhile, the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode will proceed to stay in the Coimbatore Division.
In the following phases, the North Western Region at Tiruchi is being bifurcated with a brand new headquarters developing at Cuddalore and in the third part, the Southern Region is being divided into two with a brand new headquarters developing in Tirunelveli, Mr. Ravi stated. Coimbatore Zone has 9 districts, North Western Zone in Tiruchi and Southern Zone has ten districts every.
The new Zones at Salem in the primary part, Cuddalore and Tirunelveli in the following phases might be headed by Deputy Directors and the North, North Western, Western and Southern Zones might be headed by Joint Directors. The Deputy Directors and Joint Directors will report back to the Additional Director (Operations), Chennai.
Of this, the bifurcation of Coimbatore and Salem division are in last phases.

Joint Director of TNFRS, Coimbatore Zone, R. Sathyanarayan stated journey between Coimbatore and Krishnagiri is 274 km, Dharmapuri is 228 km, Namakkal is 171 km and Salem is 168 km. On an common, 15 hearth calls and 55 rescue calls in a month are being dealt with by 90 stations in the 9 districts. Normally it takes 4 to 5 hours to achieve these districts in the occasion of any main hearth accident or rescue calls, therefore the choice to bifurcate the zone.
Mr. Sathyanarayan stated about 1,000 odd hearth males are being educated at varied locations in the State and of which 150 every are being educated at Coimbatore and Salem and these hearth males might be inducted into the drive very shortly. A 54 m tall snorkel is being procured for Tiruppur and the method is in last phases. Mr. Ravi stated that 50 drones have been procured for the TNFRS and males have been educated to function the drones to evaluate or verify the seat of Fire.
