When compared to clocks on the ground, the ones on the plane that flew against Earth’s rotation lost about 59 nanoseconds, while the clocks on the plane moving with the rotation gained about 273 nanoseconds. This means those clocks on the planes experienced a tiny bit of time travel!

Astronauts add to this story. Take Scott Kelly, for instance. After spending almost a year in the International Space Station, he returned to Earth slightly younger than his twin brother, Mark, back on Earth. His time in orbit caused a tiny but real difference in their ages due to the effects of speed and gravity.

Recent stats show that just under 50% of people believe time travel could one day be real, according to a survey by YouGov. This shows a growing curiosity and optimism about the possibilities of science.
