Tom Cruise Shares Uncommon Insights About Ex-Wife Nicole Kidman: What He Really Thinks

Tom Cruise recently shared some rare insights about his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, in an interview with Sight and Sound magazine. He praised her acting skills and recounted how he played a part in casting her in the 1999 film Eyes Wide Shut.

During the interview, Cruise spoke about meeting with director Stanley Kubrick to discuss the film. "It was just the two of us getting to know each other," he said. He suggested that Kubrick consider Kidman for the role of Alice, noting her exceptional talent.

Kidman ultimately got the part, and she and Cruise portrayed a couple navigating themes of infidelity. Reflecting on their collaboration, Cruise mentioned that they spent long hours fine-tuning the film’s tone, often rewriting scenes on the go. “We arrived in the summer and basically started testing… the script was just an idea,” he explained.

In a 2020 interview, Kidman also reminisced about Eyes Wide Shut. She recalled how, despite the film’s heavy themes, they managed to keep things light by engaging in fun activities like go-kart racing after intense scenes. "We would rent out a place and go racing at 3 in the morning,” she shared. At the time, they were raising their two children, Isabella and Connor, and often had family dinners with Kubrick, who enjoyed joining them.

Kidman described the experience as enriching, combining family life with working alongside one of cinema’s greatest filmmakers.

Cruise and Kidman divorced in 2001. In a past interview, Kidman mentioned that the split was a significant shock, taking her a long time to heal. Meanwhile, Cruise went on to marry Katie Holmes, with whom he has a daughter, Suri, while Kidman married country singer Keith Urban in 2006 and has two daughters, Sunday and Faith.
