Wheesung, the popular South Korean singer, has sadly passed away. His real name was Choi Whee-sung, and he was found at his home in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, around 6:30 PM on March 10. Reports confirm he was in cardiac arrest when discovered.
According to fire officials, his mother called for help after finding him. Law enforcement believes he may have been dead for some time and has requested an autopsy to investigate the cause of death.
Fortunately, authorities have reported no signs of foul play at his home, which suggests that there was no criminal involvement in his death. Wheesung was only 43 years old.
His sudden passing led to the cancellation of an upcoming joint concert with singer KCM in Daegu, which was set to be held that Saturday.
Wheesung was known for mixing R&B with K-pop and made a significant impact on the music scene since his debut in 2002 with the song “Can’t We?” Over the years, he released several hits, including “With Me,” “The Day We Met Again,” “Insomnia,” and “Even Thought of Marriage.” He was widely recognized as one of South Korea’s top R&B vocalists, earning multiple awards throughout his career.
Despite his professional success, Wheesung faced personal struggles. In 2019, he was indicted for illegal use of propofol. He also suffered from depression and panic disorder, which worsened after the loss of his father. His mental health issues were made public when he was found unconscious in a restroom after using another medication.
After news of his passing broke, tributes began to flood in. Many fans and fellow artists shared their condolences. Rapper Changmo expressed gratitude for Wheesung’s music, highlighting its profound impact on his life. Another rapper, Paloalto, recalled many memories tied to Wheesung’s music during his youth, describing the news as shocking and heartbreaking.
Wheesung’s legacy in the music world will not be forgotten, as he touched the hearts of many through his powerful voice and heartfelt lyrics.
